Terms of Service
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your purchase and use of Convertessa (the "Software"), a native macOS file-conversion application. You accept these Terms by purchasing, downloading, installing, activating, or using Convertessa. If you do not accept these Terms, do not purchase, download, install, activate, or use the Software.

2. Payment Processor / Merchant of Record
Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle handles payment collection, invoicing, VAT/tax remittance, and is your primary point of contact for billing and refund requests. Your payment agreement is with Paddle, subject to Paddle's Buyer Terms.
Paddle's own buyer terms may also apply to your checkout. In case of conflict about payment processing specifically, Paddle's checkout/payment terms control that payment-processing relationship only; these Terms continue to govern your license and use of the Software.
3. Product Description, Price, and Updates
Convertessa is a native macOS application that converts files between formats using open-source engines installed on your device (such as ffmpeg, libvips, pandoc, LibreOffice, and Calibre). All conversion processing takes place locally on your device; the application does not upload your files to any server.
The purchase price is USD 19.00, a one-time payment. There is no subscription and no recurring charge.
Updates. Every update we release for the Software is included at no additional cost for the lifetime of your license. However, we do not guarantee that any particular future file format, codec, third-party tool, or macOS version will be supported, that updates will be released on any schedule, or that updates will continue indefinitely. Security or compatibility updates may require a supported version of macOS.
Discretionary discounts (for students, qualifying non-profit use, or other circumstances) may be available on request at support@convertessa.app. No discount is guaranteed; each request is considered individually.
4. Conversion Risk and Your Responsibilities
File conversion is inherently imperfect. A conversion can fail, change a file's layout, metadata, colour, or quality, or produce output that is incompatible with the tool you intend to use. You are responsible for keeping your original files and for verifying converted files before relying on them.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we are not responsible for data loss, lost profits, missed deadlines, or other damages arising from conversion results. This does not affect the mandatory carve-outs in Section 12.
5. License Grant
Upon completing your purchase and activating your license token, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, perpetual license for one named individual to install and use Convertessa subject to these Terms.
Scope:
- One named individual. The license belongs to the individual purchaser. That individual may use Convertessa for personal or commercial work.
- Unlimited personal Macs. The named individual may activate and use the license on any number of Mac computers that they personally own or use.
- No sharing or transfer. The license may not be shared, resold, sublicensed, rented, transferred, publicly hosted, used for service-bureau purposes, or used on a team-wide or company-wide basis.
- Per-seat for organisations. A company or team must purchase a separate license for each individual user, unless we offer a separate business/team license in the future.
- Perpetual. The license does not expire, subject to Section 13 (Termination).
This license does not grant access to the Software's source code, trademarks, or any other intellectual property of the Seller beyond what is necessary to use the Software as described.
6. Delivery
After your payment is confirmed by the payment processor, you will receive an email to the address you provided at checkout. The email is sent from hello@convertessa.app and contains:
- a download link for the Convertessa application (
.dmgfile); and - your license token, required to activate the Software on your Mac.
Delivery is electronic and typically occurs within minutes of payment confirmation. If you do not receive the email within 30 minutes, check your spam/junk folder or contact support@convertessa.app with your order reference.
7. Refund Policy — 14-Day Money-Back Guarantee
We offer a 14-day money-back guarantee. If you are not satisfied with Convertessa for any reason, you may request a full refund of the product purchase price within 14 calendar days of your original purchase date.
How to request a refund: submit a request through Paddle buyer support at paddle.net, or contact us at support@convertessa.app. Paddle, as Merchant of Record, processes all refunds on our behalf; we do not process refunds directly.
Effect of a refund. A refund terminates your license immediately. After a refund you must stop using the Software and, if we request it, delete the Software and your license token from your devices.
Beyond the 14-day window. The Merchant of Record may, at its own discretion and as required by applicable consumer-protection law, issue refunds beyond our 14-day window. Nothing in these Terms should be read as a representation that a refund will be refused where the payment processor or applicable law requires one. Refunds are credited to your original payment method.
8. Digital Content: Immediate Supply (EU/EEA/UK Consumers)
If you are a consumer in the EU/EEA or the UK, you have a statutory right of withdrawal (14 days) for distance purchases. Because Convertessa is digital content delivered immediately, the law allows that right to end once supply begins, but only where you have given express prior consent to immediate supply and acknowledged that you thereby lose the withdrawal right.
That consent and acknowledgement are collected at checkout, before payment, through the Merchant of Record. Example wording: "I request immediate delivery of the digital software/license and acknowledge that, where applicable, I lose my statutory withdrawal right once delivery begins." Your purchase confirmation / license-delivery email records that you gave this consent.
This does not limit your rights under our voluntary 14-day money-back guarantee (Section 7) or any non-waivable consumer rights under the law of your country of residence.
9. Acceptable Use
You may use Convertessa only for lawful purposes in connection with files you own or have the right to process. You must not:
- reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to derive source code from the Software, except to the extent this restriction is prohibited by applicable law (for example, where mandatory law grants a right to decompile for interoperability);
- remove, obscure, or alter any copyright, trademark, or proprietary notices;
- use the Software to process files in violation of applicable copyright, database rights, or other intellectual-property laws;
- share, resell, sublicense, rent, or otherwise transfer your license token or access to the Software to any third party;
- use the Software in any way that violates applicable local, national, or international law.
10. Software Updates and Outbound Connections
Convertessa uses the Sparkle framework to check for and deliver software updates. When the application launches, and approximately once every 24 hours thereafter, Convertessa contacts updates.convertessa.app to check for available updates. This check transmits the following information to the update server:
- current application version;
- macOS version;
- CPU architecture (Apple Silicon / Intel);
- Sparkle framework version.
An update check does not transmit your name, email address, license token, file names, or conversion data. Like any web request, it does reveal your device's IP address and a user-agent string to the update server (which is served via Cloudflare); we do not use this to track or profile you. Update checks run automatically on launch and approximately once every 24 hours; there is no in-app toggle to disable them.
Updates are delivered at no additional charge.
11. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SOFTWARE WILL OPERATE WITHOUT INTERRUPTION, ERROR, OR DEFECT, OR THAT ANY DEFECT WILL BE CORRECTED.
Nothing in this section affects any statutory guarantee or right that cannot be excluded or limited under the law applicable to you as a consumer.
12. Limitation of Liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, for intentional misconduct or gross negligence, or for any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law. The limitations below apply only to the fullest extent permitted by law and subject to this paragraph.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW:
(a) OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OR THE SOFTWARE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE PURCHASE PRICE YOU PAID (USD 19.00); AND
(b) IN NO EVENT SHALL WE BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, OR LOSS OF BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
13. Termination
Your license continues indefinitely unless terminated.
Termination by us: we may terminate your license immediately upon written notice if you materially breach these Terms (including any violation of Section 9) and, where the breach is capable of remedy, fail to remedy it within 7 days of receiving notice.
Effect of termination: upon termination — including termination on refund (Section 7) — you must stop using the Software and delete all copies and your license token from your devices. Termination does not affect rights or obligations already accrued.
14. Third-Party Engines and Open-Source Software
Convertessa invokes third-party open-source tools to perform file conversions. These tools — including ffmpeg, libvips (and the open-source libraries it links to, including ImageMagick, libraw, and OpenSlide), pandoc, LibreOffice, Calibre, fontTools, and others — are not bundled with the Software. They are installed separately on your device (via Homebrew or direct download, at your direction), and Convertessa invokes them using standard operating-system process calls.
Your use of those tools is subject to their respective open-source licenses. Full attribution information, license links, and a description of the shell-out architecture are available at convertessa.app/licensing.
15. Fonts and Typeface Content
Convertessa can convert font and typeface files between formats such as TTF (TrueType), OTF (OpenType), WOFF and WOFF2, and TTX (font XML), and can perform font operations such as glyph subsetting and creating a static instance from a variable font. Convertessa grants no license to any font or typeface content you process. Fonts are commonly licensed works, and the right to use, embed, modify, or redistribute a given font is governed by that font's own license or end-user license agreement, not by these Terms. You are solely responsible for ensuring that any conversion or operation you perform with Convertessa is permitted under the license that applies to that font.
Some font operations are commonly restricted under commercial font licenses, including converting a desktop font to a web-font format, extracting an individual font from a font collection, and subsetting or instancing a font. If you are unsure whether your font's license permits an operation, check that license or contact its rights holder before proceeding.
Convertessa preserves each font's license and embedding-permission metadata — including the name table's copyright and license-text entries and the OS/2 table's embedding-permission bits ("fsType") — through every conversion, and never offers a way to remove or alter them. Where a font's fsType marks it Restricted License Embedding, Convertessa refuses to convert that font and reports why.
16. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Georgia (country), without regard to conflict-of-laws principles.
Any dispute arising from or relating to these Terms that cannot be resolved through good-faith negotiation between the parties shall be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts of Georgia.
Mandatory consumer rights. Notwithstanding the foregoing, if you are a consumer, you retain the mandatory consumer-protection rights of your country of residence, including the right to bring proceedings before, and rely on the mandatory provisions of, the courts and law of that country.
17. Changes to These Terms
Terms at the time of purchase govern that purchase. The version of these Terms in force when you bought your license continues to govern that license and the version of the Software you received. We will not unilaterally strip rights from a license already sold.
We may revise these Terms for new purchases, and for optional future updates that you choose to accept, where there is a valid reason — for example: changes in law or regulation; security; changes in the macOS platform or third-party tools; or new functionality. Revised Terms apply prospectively and take effect on the date posted at convertessa.app/terms.
If a change would materially and adversely affect you, you may continue to use the version of the Software you already received under the Terms in force at your purchase. We will post material changes at least 14 days before they take effect and update the "Last updated" date.
18. General Provisions
Severability. If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full force, and the invalid provision is replaced by a valid one that most closely reflects its intent.
No waiver. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of our right to enforce it later.
Assignment. You may not assign or transfer these Terms or your license without our prior written consent. We may assign these Terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, without affecting your rights under the license you purchased.
Entire agreement. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and the Licensing page, are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Software, and supersede any prior understanding on that subject.
Survival. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination — including those on payment, license scope, disclaimers, limitation of liability, privacy, and governing law — survive termination of your license.
19. Complaints and Support
Response commitment: we aim to respond to all support and complaint enquiries within 5 business days.
If you have a complaint about the Software or these Terms, please contact us in the first instance at support@convertessa.app with a description of the issue. We will investigate and respond in good faith.
If your complaint relates to a billing or payment matter, please also contact the Merchant of Record directly (Paddle — see Section 2).
